Everything’s popping up Abbott right now. Yesterday ABC renewed Abbott Elementary for its fifth season, hot on the heels of its headline-making crossover with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which gave the sitcom its highest-rated episode ever (in its regular time slot). Quinta Brunson’s comedy was ABC’s first renewal for the 2025-2026 season, and has basically been the network’s defining show this decade; there’s no reason to think it won’t get at least a few more seasons before all is said and done.

That’s the future, though. Let’s talk about right now, and specifically tonight. The latest episode of Abbott Elementary airs on ABC tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. CT), and starts streaming tomorrow on Hulu. The school’s teachers and students have to deal with a strike that shuts down all of Philly’s public transit—including its school buses. It’s a little hard to teach kids who simply can’t make it into school, so hybrid methods are needed—and school administrators need to explain everything that’s happening to the teachers. And at Abbott that means the self-obsessed, inept Principal Coleman (Janelle James) has to run a faculty meeting to discuss the issue.

Paste is excited to share a short sneak peek at tonight’s episode of Abbott Elementary, picking up at the start of that meeting. It’s a quick hit at the personalities and character dynamics that have made Abbott such a popular and acclaimed show, from Coleman’s foolishness, to the seen-it-all weariness of teachers Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) and Barbara Howard (Emmy-winner Sheryl Lee Ralph), to the practicality of younger teachers Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams) and Janine Teagues (Brunson). It hits all those notes in just about 50 seconds, making it not just a reliably funny Abbott scene, but a tight mini-class in sitcom writing

Check out the clip from tonight’s episode below, and tune in to Abbott Elementary on ABC tonight or on Hulu tomorrow.
