Following the success of previous Anne Rice television adaptations, Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, The Talamasca is based on stories and characters introduced in both adaptations, according to AMC.
The official Instagram account for the Anne Rice Immortal Universe posted the production yesterday, noting that the series had officially begun production on October 7th in Manchester, England. John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr. Banks) will direct the first episode and John Schwartzmann (A Simple Favor) will serve as the Director of Photography.
“The investigation has begun,” reads the mysterious post. “Anne Rice’s #TheTalamasca is now in production.”
The drama series will follow a secret society called The Talamasca, a group of individuals responsible for identifying and tracking vampires, witches, werewolves, and other supernatural beings scattered around the world. Hancock will serve as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside Mark Lafferty (Halt and Catch Fire). Season 1 will consist of six episodes.
The Talamasca has tapped Nicholas Denton (Dangerous Liaisons) to star as Guy Anatole, a law student who, while on the cusp of graduation, is approached by a representative of the Talamasca. As he discovers that the secretive organization has been tracking him since childhood, Guy is thrust into a realm of secret agents and immortal beings, where he must embrace the dark depths of his true self to survive.
Academy Award-nominee Elizabeth McGovern will star opposite Denton as Helen, a Talamasca veteran and mentor to Guy. William Fitchner (The Company You Keep) will feature as Jasper, an influential figure in the Talamasca, as reported by Variety.
Though many details surrounding this series are still unclear, fans are eagerly anticipating how this new chapter will expand the rich lore of Rice’s universe. The Talamasca will premiere in late 2025 on AMC/AMC+.
