TNT’s Crime Family Drama Animal Kingdom Renewed for Fifth Season

The gritty crime drama Animal Kingdom will be back for more after being renewed for a fifth season on TNT.

Following the crime-riddled Cody family, Animal Kingdom has been packed with action and outrageous crime escapades since 2016. In the show’s current season, family matriarch Smurf is back on top of the totem pole and isn’t going to let herself be knocked back down. While Smurf is supposedly running the family, her sons are scheming and planning their own reckless heists to make a name for themselves in the family business, all while outside forces are trying to mess with the state of the Cody family.

The series stars Ellen Barkin, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole and Sovhi Rodriguez. The fourth season also brought in Emily Deschanel in a recurring role, as well as Leila George as a young Smurf.

The series is inspired by the 2010 Australian film from David Michôd (War Machine) and Liz Watts (The Rover). Both Michôd and Watts serve as executive producers on the series, which was developed for television by Jonathan Lisco (Halt and Catch Fire). John Wells (American Woman) and Eliza Clark (The Killing) serve as executive producers, as well.

The show has steadily grown since its beginning, and the latest season has brought in around 18 million viewers across all platforms. The show is also part of TNT’s thriving group of drama series, including Claws, The Alienist, I Am The Night and the forthcoming The Alienist: Angel of Darkness.
