Ansel Elgort to Star in WarnerMedia’s Tokyo Vice Series

Ansel Elgort is set to make his television series debut in WarnerMedia’s forthcoming Tokyo Vice adaptation, per Deadline.

Based on Jake Adelstein’s book of the same name, the series will follow an American journalist’s first-hand account of working the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat at one of Japan’s largest newspapers, where he endeavors to uncover corruption inside of the Tokyo Vice squad and the criminal underbelly of the city.

Written by Tony Award-winning playwright J.T. Rogers, the project was given a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes and will debut on WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service. Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) is set to direct.

Tokyo Vice is WarnerMedia’s second series set to debut this fall, alongside Love Life, a romantic comedy anthology series starring Anna Kendrick and Paul Feig. A Gremlins series is also in the works for the platform, apparently.

A feature adaption of Tokyo Vice was originally set in motion in 2013 with Daniel Radcliffe attached, but the project was shelved somewhere in pre-production purgatory.

Elgort recently appeared in the first trailer for The Goldfinch, slated to hit theaters Sept. 13, and will appear in Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming remake of West Side Story.
