Just three episodes in, Apple TV+’s Criminal Record is already a twisty crime drama worth obsessing over. The series stars an all-star duo of Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo as detectives Daniel Hegarty and June Lenker, an unlikely pair tasked with reevaluating a potentially unjust murder conviction. As their methods and backgrounds clash, they inch ever closer to discovering the truth behind Errol Mathis’ (Tom Moutchi) sentence and the decades-old murder that has once again been brought to light.

In her Paste review of the series, Lacy Baugher Milas calls Criminal Record “a two-hander between two powerhouse performers at the top of their respective games,” and that crackling chemistry between Capaldi and Jumbo is exactly what makes this series so electric to watch episode-to-episode.

In our exclusive clip from Episode 4, titled “Protected,” Hegarty singles out June as the entire precinct debates what to do with a 17 year-old suspect’s confession. Hegarty and June discuss the reasons why a troubled kid would give them a confession in the first place, highlighting their differing perspectives in the process. Capaldi and Jumbo are captivating as these two characters go head-to-head.
