FX has just renewed its groundbreaking comedy Atlanta for a third season.
But of course, no one is surprised, nor should they be. After the first season of Donald Glover’s hit series garnered Emmys, Golden Globes and a Peabody, its follow-up, dubbed Robbin’ Season, stayed true to the surrealist comedy that made us fans while delving deeper into its supporting characters with insane one-offs and bottle episodes. From Mexican Drake to Donald Glover in whiteface, this show has been consistently making Paste’s Power Rankings as one of the best shows on TV and is a safe bet to see similar success this upcoming awards season.
Atlanta’s third season is expected to return to FX at some point in 2019. With its creator headed out on tour in what is likely to be his last run as Childish Gambino this fall and many of its cast members pursuing impressive careers of their own—Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz all have films making it to the big screen this summer—we have our fingers crossed that Earn, Paper Boi, Darius and Van will be returning to the small screen sooner rather than later.
