Bates Motel Season Five Premiere Date Announced

After a successful four-season run, A&E’s Bates Motel will be debuting its fifth and final season on Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. EST, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Back when it premiered in 2013, Bates Motel became the newest addiction for many because it knowingly positioned itself in the shadow of Psycho, moving with agonizing slowness from a newly imagined past for Norman and Norma Bates toward the iconic events depicted in Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic.

The show’s crazy fourth season has finally closed the distance between prequel and original with Norma’s death and Norman’s transformation into a psychic hybrid between himself and his deceased mother. These developments have paved the way for a fifth season that will reveal none other than Marion Crane (played by Janet Leigh in the original film, but here to be incarnated by Rihanna in a striking casting decision) checking into the motel and, presumably, checking out in the most macabre of fashions.

Retreading such legendary territory as Psycho is a tall order, but given the show’s success thus far, anticipation is at an all-time high.
