This next installment will star Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Emmy Award nominee Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage), Charles Melton (May December), and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla).
The new season will follow a young couple entangled in a disturbing confrontation between their boss and his wife. This explosive event sets off a chain reaction of manipulative chess moves within the opulent yet elitist world of a country club, overseen by a powerful Korean billionaire owner.
Season 2 of Beef will consist of eight 30-minute episodes. Lee Sung Jin will return as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer, joined by executive producers Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, and Jake Schreier.
Beef’s inaugural season, featuring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, premiered in 2023 to widespread acclaim, earning the title of the most recognized and award-winning anthology series of the 2023-2024 season. The show garnered a staggering array of accolades, including 8 Emmy Awards, 4 Critics Choice Awards, 3 Golden Globe Awards, and more, solidifying its place in television history.
The debut season of Beef not only received critical acclaim for its storytelling and representation but also found itself embroiled in a significant controversy surrounding David Choe, one of its supporting actors. Choe, who played Isaac in Season 1, faced backlash over a graphic story he shared in 2014 on his podcast, where he detailed a disturbing act of sexual assault he committed. Although Choe later claimed the account was fabricated, audiences raised important questions surrounding the show’s casting and creative decisions. Calls for accountability intensified and were left unaddressed, with Sung Jin, Yeun, and Wong releasing a statement denouncing his original description, but citing that he has since “learned from his mistakes” to Vanity Fair.
Further details regarding Season 2’s plot and additional cast members are yet to be unveiled.
