Better Call Saul Promo Teases Return of Key Breaking Bad Character

A new video has fans of AMC’s Breaking Bad pretty excited. The video, set as a promotional video for the show’s fictional restaurant chain Los Pollos Hermanos, promises some much-needed backstory for infamous restaurant owner Gus Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito himself confirmed his character’s return via Twitter, tweeting, “I’m back!! What you’ve been waiting for, the rise of Gus is coming!”

In Breaking Bad’s narrative, Fring was one of protagonist Walter White’s central nemeses, using his restaurant chain as a front for meth sales. In this context, the ad for Fring’s restaurant seems less family-friendly than it does downright sinister. The clip portends a significant role for Fring in season three of the Breaking Bad spinoff series Better Call Saul, a series that has been remarkably good at giving itself space to expand outside of Breaking Bad’s mythology. Still, most fans probably wouldn’t mind a little bit of crossover with the original.
