Hallelujah: Better Call Saul Renewed for a Fourth Season

Someone call Saul: His critically acclaimed Breaking Bad spinoff will return for a fourth season with 10 new episodes in 2018, AMC announced yesterday.

The series ended its third season with a fiery cliffhanger that further shifted the show from the comedy it began as towards a more sobering tragedy. Despite becoming more and more darkly comical, Better Call Saul has succeeded as a spinoff by mirroring tones of Breaking Bad, the worldwide phenomenon the show spawned from, while remaining a uniquely compelling series.

An under-appreciated series, Better Call Saul has often done well enough to earn an early renewal from the network, but longer negotiations kept fans waiting this year. The season three finale totaled 3.7 million viewers. AMC itself boasts four out of the five top dramas on cable for 2017, with only The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead ranking ahead of Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul also landed at number 11 on our list of the best television of 2017 so far.

In a statement, AMC President Charlie Collier praised executive producers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould on their fantastic third season and the impending fourth. “Supporting artists we respect and admire; delivering truly outstanding character development and nuanced dramatic twists and turns; continuing a legacy of bold creative choices; loving writing that is the best in the business: Truly, ‘S’all good, man,’” said Collier, “Congratulations to Vince, Peter, Bob and everyone involved with Better Call Saul. Bring on season four!”
