Bob Odenkirk Will Play Journalist David Carr in Forthcoming AMC Miniseries

Last year, famed New York Times columnist David Carr collapsed in the newsroom of the renowned newspaper and was pronounced dead shortly after. Last September, The Times created a fellowship in Carr’s name to grow the talents of up-and-coming writers.

Now, AMC and Sony Pictures Television have seen fit to pay tribute to Carr by turning his 2008 award-winning memoir, The Night of the Gun, into a six-part miniseries starring Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad fame. Odenkirk will also serve as one of the show’s executive producers alongside head writer Shawn Ryan.

“I read David’s story, The Night of the Gun, when it came out and was wildly entertained by his saga,” Odenkirk said. “It’s a story of survival filled with pain, crack, journalistic righteousness, abandoned cars, crooks, lies and then there’s the two little girls who saved his life; it’s overstuffed with humanity.”
