Images courtesy of NetflixThe forthcoming Netflix series Gentefied, about the gentrification of L.A. (most notably the neighborhood of Boyle Heights), features its characters listening to a podcast called Brown Love, which discusses different facets of the Latinx experience and preaches self-love. Gentefied premieres on the streaming platform Friday, and the Brown Love podcast won’t just be a fictional podcast featured on the show—it will run for six episodes over the course of six weeks, starting Feb. 25.
Brown Love will be hosted by Dasha Polanco, a Dominican-American actor best known for her role on Netflix’s original series Orange Is the New Black. The podcast will be conducted as conversations between Polanco and other Latinx people working in Hollywood. While the premise might seem L.A.-centric, the show promises to try and capture the experience of being a Latinx person living in the U.S. in as full of a scope as possible.
The first episode will feature fellow Orange actor Selenis Leyva and Gentefied star Julissa Calderón in conversation about the Afro-Latinx experience, and its many complexities and contradictions.
