Watch Time Distort in the Teaser for Netflix’s Dark

The teaser for Netflix’s first German-language original series has arrived, and it looks, well, dark.

The series comes from the creative team of Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the filmmakers behind the … interestingly titled Who Am I—No System Is Safe, a “techno-thriller” that drew comparisons to Mr. Robot. Warner Bros. has already acquired the rights to remake that one.

Dark follows a kidnapped young boy named Erik and a haunted, repressed town trying to find him. In their review from TIFF 2017, IndieWire called the show “a workmanlike answer to The OA and Stranger Things,” also noting how the themes of the show focus on “the repercussions and elasticity of time and fate.” If the trailer is any indication, we’re in for a grim, kinetic ride.

All 10 of the series’ episodes will release on Dec. 1 on Netflix. See the first teaser above, and the show’s full synopsis below.

Dark, a family saga with a supernatural twist, is set in a German town in present day where the disappearance of two young children exposes the double lives and fractured relationships among four families. In ten, hour-long episodes, the story takes on a supernatural twist that ties back to the same town in 1986.
