Donald Glover Will Run an Animated Deadpool Show on FXX in 2018

Wow. We definitely didn’t expect to write that headline today, but there it is up there. FXX just gave a 10-episode order for an animated Deadpool show with Donald and Stephen Glover serving as showrunners, writers and executive producers.

The announcement of more Glover-run FXX shows isn’t a surprise after he signed an overall production deal with the network in January, but Deadpool being the property he landed on certainly seems out of left field. Even when Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley signed on for FX’s X-Men show Legion, the program dealt with characters that had gone entirely untouched in TV and film up to that point.

Still, since Deadpool is one of Fox’s biggest all-time financial successes and Glover has proven his comedy chops to just about every audience imaginable at this point, the deal will obviously be a lucrative one. Here’s Co-President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Nick Grad on the news of the series order:

Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.

Stay tuned to Paste for more on the as-of-yet-untitled show as it moves toward production and its 2018 premiere date. In other recent Deadpool news, Josh Brolin was cast as mutant Cable in the big-screen Deadpool 2, which is also set for next year.
