Christmas Came Early: Watch a Sneak Preview of the Doctor Who Christmas Special
Photo by Ray Burmiston/Noise In ColourWe have our first look at the Doctor Who Christmas Special, and it’s a real treat.
The special, titled “Twice Upon a Time,” premieres on BBC America this Christmas. Its cast features outgoing star Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, Game of Thrones’ David Bradley as the First Doctor, Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss as the Captain.
The brief clip above sees Bradley’s First Doctor exploring the new and improved TARDIS (“It’s hideous!”), with the Doctor unwittingly spoiling World War II for the Captain before deliberately spoiling the First Doctor’s twelfth regeneration for him. Clearly, it’s going to be quite a bit of fun to spend Christmas with these three—or is it two?
The Doctor Who Christmas Special will be Capaldi’s final appearance as the Doctor, so it’s nice to see him shine in the clip above. That said, we’re looking forward to Jodie Whittaker’s take on the iconic character—a recent costume reveal gave us a clearer picture of what to expect from the first female Doctor. After Capaldi regenerates into her at the end of “Twice Upon a Time,” Whittaker will star in season 11 of Doctor Who alongside three new companions in the fall of 2018.
“Twice Upon a Time” airs on Dec. 25, and also marks the end of Steven Moffat’s tenure as showrunner. Watch the first-look clip above.
