Watch the New Trailer for Season 10 of Doctor Who

The second trailer for season 10 of the long-running hit Doctor Who has been released—watch above.

“This is the gateway to everything that ever was, or ever can be … ” says the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) at the start of the trailer. After that striking phrase, we are then treated to a glimpse of what the Doctor, Bill and Nardole will get up to in the forthcoming season. A robot that speaks emoji, Mars and 19th-century England are all part of the challenges to come. Bill’s recently revealed sexuality does not seem to play a major role. At the end of the trailer, we get an ominous reminder that Capaldi’s time as Doctor is coming to an end.

This will be Capaldi’s final season as the Doctor, and many fans are sad to see him go. Capaldi announced that he would leave after the Christmas episode, but the trailer seems to indicate the regeneration might happen sooner than that. There has yet to be an official replacement announced, but The Sun recently reported that the higher-ups at the BBC said they will look for a “male actor in his 30s,” because “a lot of younger fans have been lost in the last few years, especially young females and the gay male audience.” Apparently, merchandise sales have been down since the departure of scruffy dreamboat Doctor David Tennant. This is a bit off from previous rumors that suggested Olivia Colman might become the next Doctor. The Sun also revealed that Bill (Pearl Mackie) will depart after only one season, which is a total bummer. Right now, this is more or less unconfirmed, so we’ll keep an ear out for an official announcement.

Doctor Who’s 10th season premieres on BBC America on April 15 at 9 p.m. EST. You can watch the previous trailer here, and don’t miss Paste’s feature “In Doctor Who, Teachable Moments for the Age of Trump” here.
