India Eisley to Star in Crime Thriller Socio

TV News Eisley

The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Underworld: Awakening star India Eisley has been tapped for the leading role in crime thriller Socio.

The series, which serves as a collaborative effort between Judy McGrath’s Astronauts Wanted and digital studio Canvas, follows Jordan, a teen tech savant who is harboring a darkness inside of her. Teamed up with a morally compromising police detective, Jordan uses her skills to help stop a serial killer.

Outside of its premise, the series is most fascinating for its planned distribution methods. Socio is a means of diving “into the mind of a teenage sociopath who operates on social media,” according to Canvas co-founder and series creator, writer and director Bernie Su. As such, Jordan’s interactions with the online social platforms have been designed to have real-world crossover. Fans will be able to literally follow along with what is happening in the show and with its characters through various social media accounts.

Nick Shore, chief creative strategist for Astronauts Wanted, told The Hollywood Reporter that the show’s social media elements will be “baked into the entire development process” in order to experiment with “the whole possibility of non-linear storytelling.”

The pilot has already been shot and the partnering studios are currently shopping it to distributors. Plans are for a full-length drama series with digital distribution due to the series’ heavy transmedia elements.
