Creative Arts Emmys: Game of Thrones Takes Home Nine

TV News emmys

Game of Thrones is already the most nominated show at the Emmys, and it’s also the most awarded thus far. The Creative Arts Emmys, which were held on Saturday and Sunday night, gave the HBO hit nine trophies, which is better than its total at last year’s Creative Arts Emmys.

The series won for casting in a drama series, production design, costumes and single-camera picture editing, along with several other categories. It also picked up its fifth consecutive win in the special visual effects category. The show was nominated for 15 awards at the ceremony, the most of any show.

Other notable wins include Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, who shared the Best Guest Actress in a comedy award for their work on Saturday Night Live. Remarkably, this is the first Emmy win for Poehler, one that’s definitely long overdue. Margo Martindale won for The Americans, alongside Peter Scolari for Girls and Hank Azaria for Ray Donovan.

Netflix docu-series Making a Murderer also cleaned up in several categories, as did James Corden, whose beloved Carpool Karaoke managed to beat out Beyonce’s Lemonade in the variety special category.

The Creative Arts Emmys may have given us a forecast of what the actual ceremony has in store. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Until then, check out the full list of Creative Arts Emmy winners here.
