Freeform Gives Series Order to Please Like Me Creator’s Everything’s Gonna Be Okay

Freeform has given a 10-episode series order to Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, from Josh Thomas, creator, writer and star of Australian fan favorite Please Like Me, per THR.

Everything’s Gonna Be Okay follows Nicholas (Thomas), a neurotic 25-year-old still living with his single father (Adam Faison) and two half-sisters (Kayla Cromer, Maeve Press), one of whom has autism. When his dad suddenly becomes terminally ill, Nicholas finds out he may be the one who needs to hold the entire family together.

The series was put into development in May. Thomas will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Martin, Jon Thoday and Richard Allen-Turner for Avalon Television, plus Stephanie Swedlove and Kevin Whyte, with Avalon Distribution handling international distribution.

Thomas was the leading creative voice behind Please Like Me, a surprisingly delightful sitcom for one that opens with a suicide attempt and his character’s coming out as gay. The show ran for three seasons in the U.S. on the late Pivot network, and was picked up for its fourth in 2016 by Hulu, which is now streaming the entire series in the U.S.

It’s not yet clear when Everything’s Gonna Be Okay will premiere, but the news of Thomas’ return should be exciting for Please Like Me fans.
