That long-awaited Friends reunion is happening … kind of.
NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt made the announcement regarding a possible reunion of the show’s six original cast members today during the network’s TCA winter presentation.
Greenblatt shared the news with TV critics while discussing the broadcast giant’s current plans for a primetime special. The special will celebrate industry member and television director James Burrows, who will have directed his 1,000th episode. Although Burrows is the central focus of the special, the director collaborated with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer on 15 episodes of Friends over the show’s 10-season lifespan.
The network is ready for other past Burrows collaborators to appear, but when asked to confirm whether all six Friends actors would definitely appear for a reunion, Greenblatt wasn’t quick to reveal specifics.
“I shouldn’t go into detail,” Greenblatt said. “I’m hoping that all six of them will be there in the same room at the same time. I don’t know, logistically, if we can pull that off.”
Although Greenblatt wouldn’t confirm that anything was set in stone, Paul Telegdy, President of NBC’s Alternative and Late Night Programming, followed up Greenblatt’s comment by assuring the audience that all six would be participating in some manner.
So they’ll be there, just maybe not in a reunion, but also maybe in a reunion. Here’s to hoping we finally get that long awaited group hug!
