A Gremlins Animated Series Is Reportedly in the Works

Yes, according to Variety, there is a Gremlins animated series in the works from production companies Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television. Both Warner Bros. and Amblin produced the original Gremlins films on which the series is based.

The new show would be released on WarnerMedia’s still-unnamed streaming service. The project, which is still in development, will reportedly focus on Mr. Wing (the Chinese man known only as “Grandfather” in the first film) in his youth, as he and Gizmo embark on adventures together. Tze Chun, whose past TV writing credits include Gotham and Once Upon a Time, is set to write and executive produce the potential project.

Mogwai could be coming back to our screens as early as next year. Turner’s chief creative officer Kevin Reilly says that WarnerMedia will premiere original films and series on their upcoming streaming platform in 2020. Reilly also hinted that WarnerMedia will be looking to base some of their new content on extant Warner intellectual property.
