Dermot Mulroney Reunites With Julia Roberts in Amazon’s Homecoming

Dermot Mulroney and Oscar winner Julia Roberts are reuniting for the third time in Amazon’s new forthcoming series Homecoming. Mulroney is joining the already star-studded cast in a recurring guest role, per THR, playing Anthony, the boyfriend to Roberts’ Heidi. Anthony’s arc as a character will be interesting to watch as he increasingly tries to please Heidi as her lack of attention to him and their relationship causes him frustration, maybe to a breaking point.

Homecoming is a psychological and political thriller that follows Heidi, a caseworker at a secret government facility, and a returning soldier, Walter (Stephan James, Selma), eager to return to civilian life. The creator of AMC’s Emmy-winning Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail, acts as showrunner alongside Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, who created the fictional podcast upon which the show is based.

Mulroney is the latest actor to join the much-anticipated series, which begins filming this April in Los Angeles. Recently, Bobby Cannavale joined the cast to depict Colin Belfast, described as the ambitious supervisor to whatever the “Homecoming Initiative” is. The series already received a two-season, straight-to-series order, implying that this show will definitely be one to catch if Amazon is that confident in guaranteeing two seasons.

Mulroney starred opposite Roberts first in the 1997 film My Best Friend’s Wedding, which made Paste’s Valentine’s Day movie list. The duo then starred together in the film adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County with Meryl Streep. Mulroney has since been seen in the comedy series Shameless with William H. Macy, and last year’s The Mountain Between Us with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. He recently wrapped filming on The Chicksaw Rancher, post-apocalyptic thriller I See You and actor/writer/director Max Martini’s Will Gardner about an Iraq war vet traveling across the U.S. by motorcycle.

Amazon’s Homecoming does not have a set release date as of yet. Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content will executive produce alongside the showrunners and the newly formed Gimlet Media’s Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber.
