Shonda Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder Is Ending after Its Sixth Season

After six years of being on ABC, Shonda Rhimes’ court drama How to Get Away with Murder is ending after it’s forthcoming sixth season, per Variety.

The Viola Davis-led show follows the lives and cases of law students and their criminal defense lawyer professor who all get tied in, well, a murder. The show’s been on ABC since 2014, and season five concluded at the end of February with yet another twist ending.

Other than Davis, Jack Falahee, Billy Brown, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber and Liza Weil star in How to Get Away with Murder. The series was created by showrunner Pete Nowalk, and Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Stephen Cragg executive produce the show.

The announcement of the show’s end comes just a day after the announcement of Shondaland’s first Netflix series’ premiere date. In 2017, Rhimes announced her departure from ABC as she sparked a major deal with Netflix. Rhimes had been with ABC for over a decade and still has shows remaining on the network.

The long-running Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for two additional seasons back in May, and the Grey’s spin-off Station 19 is headed for its third season. Other Shondaland shows, such as Scandal and For the People have both ended, and it’s only a matter of time before the creator pulls her other shows in what is most definitely a major loss for the network. It seems ABC’s “TGITs” are soon to be no more.
