Hulu Announces Summer Slate of Original Programming

TV News

It’s frigid on the East Coast and in the Midwest today, but Hulu’s already got us looking forward to warmer weather with the announcement of its summer slate of original shows.

Casual returns for a second season on Tuesday, June 7, streaming a total of 13 episodes on a weekly basis. The comedy, created by Zander Lehmann, stars Michaela Watkins as a newly divorced single mother living with her brother Alex (Tommy Dewey) and teenage daughter Laura (Tara Lynne Barr). The official season two synopsis promises that “new friends, business partners, boyfriends and girlfriends can only do so much to distract them from a shared and recurring history of dysfunction.”

Difficult People, a comedy created by and starring Julie Klausner, returns for its second season on July 12 with a total of 10 episodes, streaming weekly. We were consistently impressed with Difficult People’s first season, so we’re very excited to see what Klausner and co-star Billy Eichner have cooked up. According to the official synopsis, “Julie and Billy continue to have contempt for the world around them while remaining loyal to each other, and, as they get in their own way, learn no lessons.” Sounds promising.

Finally, East Los High is back for a fourth season, with all episodes streaming on July 15. The Latino-focused teen drama, which stars an ensemble cast including Vannessa Vasquez, Gabriel Chavarria and Danielle Vega, promises a steamy run of 12 episodes as the titular high school goes on summer break.

Lastly, just as a reminder, there are also a few Hulu shows awaiting their premieres later this month, most notably The Mindy Project (April 12) and Kal Penn’s Deadbeat (April 20).
