Exclusive: Acorn TV Releases First Trailer for Inspector Ellis

Acorn TV has released the first trailer for its upcoming detective drama, Inspector Ellis. The series will unfold in three 90 minute episodes, with new installments dropping weekly.

Starring three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke (Rocketman, Doctor Who) as Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Ellis, the series follows a determined cop dispatched to tackle failing investigations. Accompanied by her right-hand man Detective Sergeant (DS) Harper, played by Andrew Gower (Outlander), DCI Ellis dives into complex cases in each episode, attempting to overcome the challenges of being a Black woman in a traditionally male-dominated field. Each episode finds Ellis confronting the dangerous realities of policing, in conflict with her attempted commitment to justice for victims and their families.

In the trailer, audiences can find glimpses of Inspector Ellis‘s mystery and intrigue, alongside Ellis’s internal conflict. The countryside of Northwest England plays a significant role in the trailer, with its lush landscape serving as a backdrop to the unfolding drama. The locale emphasizes the isolation and community dynamics within the rural settings that Ellis must navigate.

The premiere episode, titled “Hanmore,” sees Ellis investigating the murder of 18-year-old Rowan Edwards, portrayed by newcomer Daire Scully. Subsequent episodes feature different cases, placing Ellis in various intriguing situations that present unique challenges and reveal deeper layers of the communities involved.

Inspector Ellis was commissioned by Catherine Mackin, Managing Director of Acorn Media Enterprises. Mackin executive produces alongside Bea Tammer (London Kills) and Michele Buck (Blood). Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre (Murder Is Easy) and Paul Logue (Midsomer Murders) pen the series.

Check out the trailer below; the first episode of Inspector Ellis premieres on November 4th on Acorn TV.
