John Legend to Guest Star as Frederick Douglass in Underground Season Two

TV News John Legend

John Legend will make his acting debut in La La Land which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and looks delightful. After that, though, Legend is apparently looking to continue acting. The singer/songwriter has been cast as Frederick Douglass in the second season of WGN America’s Underground. Legend also serves as an executive producer on the show.

Douglass is just the latest famous abolitionist to join the show’s ranks, following in the footsteps of Aisha Hinds (Under the Dome), who was cast as Harriet Tubman for the show’s second season. Douglass himself escaped enslavement and dedicated his life to abolishing slavery and creating lasting political reforms.

Legend has already won an Oscar and a Golden Globe, as well as 10 Grammys. In addition to his role in La La Land, Legend serves as an executive producer on the feature film Southside With You.

Underground was created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, who serve as executive producers alongside Anthony Hemingway. The show will return for its second season in 2017, when you can check out Legend’s performance as the hugely influential figure.
