The series is based on Kristin Hannah’s bestselling book of the same name, and it is set for 10 episodes. Heigl will portray the series’ protagonist, Tully Hurt, who, as an adult, is still dealing with the trauma of her childhood, so she relies on the relationship she has with her decades-long best friend Kate.
Heigl will also executive produce the series alongside Hannah, as well as showrunner Maggie Friedman (Witches of East End). Friedman will also pen the script for the show. UnREAL’s Peter O’Fallon will direct the series’ premiere episode.
The Netflix adaptation is Hannah’s third novel to be adapted into a film or series. Her 2017 novel The Nightingale and her 2018 novel The Great Alone were both picked up by Sony TriStar for projects to be helmed by Michelle MacLaren and Julia Cox, respectively.
Heigl has most recently starred in the USA Network show Suits, where she’s had a two-season-long run. She currently set to star in the horror film I Saw a Man with Yellow Eyes with Harry Connick Jr. and Madison Iseman, as well as the CBS comedy Our House.
