Netflix’s synopsis for Barris’ forthcoming series, the first in the overall series deal between his production company Khalabo Ink Society and the streaming service, reads:
Inspired by Barris’ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race and culture, Black Excellence looks to pull the curtain back and reboot the “family sitcom” in a way we’ve never seen before.
Barris and Jones will also serve as executive producers alongside Black-ish and Grown-ish producer Hale Rothstein. The series launched its writers room last month.
