Lizzie McGuire Creator Writing New Series for Disney Channel

Terri Minsky, the creator of Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire, is returning to the network with another series centered around the life of a teenage girl.

The new series is called Andi Mack, and will be a comedy series about a thirteen-year-old girl’s life after her emotional older sister moves back home.

“As a writer and creative force, Terri Minsky has a one of a kind voice that resonates with our audience, making them laugh and cry in the same scene with dialogue and storytelling that always feels honest,” said Disney Channels Worldwide executive vice president of original programming Adam Bonnett to The Hollywood Reporter. “When Terri created Lizzie McGuire, she helped put Disney Channel on the map with a character that our audience could identify with and we look forward to introducing Andi to a new generation of kids and tweens.”

Since creating Lizzie McGuire Minsky has worked on Less Than Perfect and The Geena Davis Show for ABC and Finding Carter for MTV. It’s awesome to see Minsky back working on a show at Disney, especially one with two leading, Asian actors, expanding the diversity of kids’ programming.

The series will star Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Andi Mack and Lilan Bowden as her older sister Bex. Lauren Tom and Joshua Rush will play parents. It is set to premiere in 2017, and the pilot will be directed by Betty Thomas.
