Whiplash Star Miles Teller Lands Lead in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Amazon Assassin Drama

Whiplash star Miles Teller has landed the lead in Nicolas Winding Refn’s forthcoming Amazon original drama Too Old To Die Young.

According to Deadline, the forthcoming series “explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following killers’ existential journeys in becoming samurai.” Teller will play Martin, a young police officer who gets tangled up in the underground world of assassins and samurais. We’re thinking it’s going to be a little like the noir-ish world of John Wick, but with swords instead of guns, and sunny Los Angeles instead of New York.

Too Old To Die Young will be written and directed by Refn (The Neon Demon, Drive), along with co-writer Ed Brubaker (Westworld, Captain America: Winter Soldier). It’s a pretty strong writing duo, and we’re definitely interested to see what they come up with. The series doesn’t have a premiere date, but it’s already been set for a 10-episode first season. They plan to start filming in the fall, so it’ll probably premiere either in late 2017 or early 2018.

Don’t miss Paste’s recent interview with Refn, in which the director discusses the arrogance of youth and the future of beauty.
