Anora Breakout Joins Season 2 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Mark Eydelshteyn has officially joined the cast of Mr. & Mrs. Smith for its highly anticipated second season. The actor, best known for his breakout role in Anora, will take on the role of Mr. Smith, per Variety. This marks the first major casting announcement for the new season, though it remains unclear whether Eydelshteyn’s character will be the central focus, as all spies in the series—whether leading roles or supporting players—are referred to as Mr. or Mrs. Smith. Rumors have also swirled about Billie Eilish potentially joining the cast, but that casting has yet to be confirmed.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reimagining of the 2005 action-comedy film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The series, which blends high-stakes espionage with relationship drama, follows two strangers—played by Maya Erskine and Donald Glover (who also co-created the show)—who are thrust into new identities as the married couple, John and Jane Smith. As they navigate perilous spy missions, they must also confront the complexities of their faux marriage and the growing, real romantic emotions that develop between them.

The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith garnered critical and awards acclaim, earning 16 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series and acting nods for Glover and Erskine. The show also received several guest nominations, with standout performances from Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, John Turturro, and Michaela Coel, who won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role.

Eydelshteyn’s casting follows his role as Ivan in Anora, starring Mikey Madison, which won the Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. This comes as Mr. & Mrs. Smith moves forward with its second season, continuing under the leadership of executive producer and showrunner Francesca Sloane, with Glover remaining as an executive producer.

Details regarding additional cast members and the release date for Season 2 are still under wraps.
