Netflix’s Crime Drama Mindhunter Finally Has a Season Two Release Date

After being renewed back in 2017, Netflix’s crime drama Mindhunter finally has a release date for its second season, per Deadline.

Available to stream Aug. 16, the second season will be set between 1979 and 1981, which is a couple years after season one. The plot will supposedly focus on the Atlanta child murders, where at least 28 people were thought to have been killed.

Actors Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany will be returning as special agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench for the season. Anna Torv and Hannah Gross will also return. Avid crime aficionado David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac), Charlize Theron, Joshua Donen and Cean Chaffin are back in the executive producing roles for the season.

The show, which was created by Joe Penhall, initially launched in October 2017 and was renewed a month after its debut. The concept of the show was derived from a 1966 nonfiction crime memoir, and details the early ages of criminal profiling, where two FBI agents interview serial killers in hopes to understand how they think and why they do the things they do.

The first season received wide critical acclaim, and actor Cameron Britton received acclaim for his eerily accurate portrayal of serial killer Ed Kemper, who the first season is largely about.
