Watch the Trailer for Netflix’s First Spanish Original Drama, Cable Girls

The trailer for Netflix’s first original Spanish drama Cable Girls (Las Chicas Del Cable) has been released, and it looks pretty juicy—watch above.

The forthcoming series stars four women—Lidia (Blanca Suárez), Marga (Nadia de Santiago), Carlota (Ana Fernández) and Ángeles (Maggie Civantos)—working as telephone operators in the 1920s, and showcases their trials and tribulations as they fight for independence and the right to work. There’s also boozy parties, sleeping with the boss (who doubles as a lost love from times past), possessive husbands, flapper dresses and a strong dose of sexy (ahem, trailer, 1:35). Cable Girls is produced by Bambú Producciones, the creative team behind international Spanish hits Velvet and Gran Hotel, if that gives you an idea of the aesthetic. (Side note: If you haven’t watched Gran Hotel yet, um, maybe change that.) In any case, we think Cable Girls is going to be very Bambú Producciones-y, combined with a show like Bomb Girls. Combined with Downtown Abbey. Combined with Lo Que La Vida Me Roba.

It’s a little surprising that it’s taken Netflix this long to produce an original Spanish series (and no, Narcos does not count). The streaming service expanded to Spain in 2015, and they’ve been working on the idea for Cable Girls since 2016. The series comes to Netflix on April 28, and you bet we’ll be watching. Check out the trailer above and the show’s key art below.
