In This Life: Warrior Nun Creator Confirms Canceled Series Will Return

It’s been seven long months since Netflix confirmed that Warrior Nun, the series from creator Simon Barry based on a series of graphic novels, would not be returning for a third season. The cancellation marked just the latest in a long line of queer-led series Netflix has canceled, and was another demoralizing blow to the state of sapphic representation.
But fear not, according to a tweet from Barry, the series will return! The fan campaign, which began immediately after the series was canceled in December, has racked up millions of tweets on the #SaveWarriorNun hashtag, and marks one of the first high-profile series to be saved from cancellation since Manifest’s pickup by Netflix in late 2021. These pickups are few and far between today, due in part to the scattered state of streaming and the industry as a whole, but Barry credits Warrior Nun fans’ “voices, passion and amazing efforts” as the primary reason behind this renewal.
It is unknown where the series will land, though it is not likely that it will be seeing another season at Netflix itself. It’s more likely that the series was picked up by a rival streamer, or even a linear television network, as Netflix’s contracts are more lenient on transfers from streaming to cable or broadcast television. Like One Day at a Time before it (which was saved by Pop TV after being canceled at Netflix after three seasons), Warrior Nun Seasons 1 and 2 will likely remain on Netflix even after the series’ new home is revealed.
