The show is an adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s popular ‘90s comic of the same name about Jesse Custer, the titular Texas holy man whose possession by a supernatural entity grants him an incredible power. While the show’s first season surprised many fans by serving as a semi-prequel to the comic’s story, the second season seems to moving full steam ahead as Jesse and friends set off on a mission to confront God for everything that’s happened in his recent absence.
Preacher was developed and adapted for TV by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (The Interview, This Is the End) and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad). Rogen and Goldberg directed the first two episodes of season one, of which Catlin also directed the tenth. Rogen and Goldberg are also directing the season two debut.
Alongside Cooper, Preacher stars Ruth Negga (Loving) as Tulip and Joseph Gilgun (The Last Witch Hunter) as Cassidy. The second season is set to premiere later this year.
