Fox Orders Shazam-Inspired Music Guessing Game Show, Beat Shazam

TV News Shazam

American Idol ended in April. Now, Fox is ordering another musically inspired game show.

Based on the music identification app Shazam, Beat Shazam will have contestants compete against each other to identify songs, similar to the app. Then, contestants will compete against the Shazam app in the final round for a grand prize. The show is being executive-produced by Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor) and Jeff Apploff (Don’t Forget the Lyrics!), per The Hollywood Reporter.

Since Chris Barton, Philip Inghelbrecht, Avery Wang and Dhiraj Mukherjee created Shazam in 1999, it has become one of the app store’s most popular music apps. It has also partnered with many big brands during the Super Bowl and expanded beyond music by adding a feature that identifies television shows based on the show’s audio.

In addition to Beat Shazam, Fox is also ordering an American version of the U.K. series You’re Back in the Room, hosted by Taye Diggs.

No release dates for either of the shows have been set.
