Steven Universe: The Movie Adds Chance The Rapper, Estelle

Chance the Rapper, Gallant, Aimee Mann and Estelle (!) are the latest to join Cartoon Network’s forthcoming Steven Universe television musical spectacular, per Deadline.

The musicians will join show creator Rebecca Sugar and series composers aivi & surasshu to produce original songs for the series’ first television movie.

Jeff Ball, James Fauntleroy, Grant Henry, Mike Krol, Jeff Liu, Macie Stewart and Julian “Zorsy” Sanchez were also listed as musical contributors.

Set to debut in the fall, Steven Universe: The Movie finds its beloved, titular hero facing “his biggest challenge yet” as a new foe threatens Beach City. The film will feature performances by the series’ cast and several musical guests, including Estelle, Patti LuPone and Uzo Aduba.

Cartoon Network Studios and Sugar are set to executive produce the film. Chance The Rapper will co-executive produce alongside Kat Morris, Joe Johnston, Alonso Ramirez Ramos and Ian Jones-Quartey.

The film will arrive with an accompanying digital soundtrack and will receive a DVD release and physical soundtrack later this year, per Deadline.

A release date has yet to be determined, but stay tuned for further updates on the production.

For now, you can check out the short (but unrevealing) teaser the network released below and revisit our 2017 chat with Sugar here.
