How Are We Just Now Hearing About the D’Arcy Carden/Will Forte Spray-Tanning Show?

If you haven’t heard of Sunny Nights, you’re not alone. Despite its absurd premise and a cast led by D’Arcy Carden (Barry, The Good Place) and Will Forte (SNL), this Australian comedy-drama has flown––criminally!––under the radar since it was announced in July.

Written by Ty Freer and Nick Keetch, Sunny Nights follows Vicki and Martin Marvin, an American brother-sister duo who launch a mobile spray-tanning business in Sydney. Things take a dark turn when their new venture collides with the city’s criminal underworld. Could this be Barry on the beach? (Or a spiritual sequel to Forte and Kaitlin Olson’s underrated Quibi series Flipped?)

Australian comedy veteran Trent O’Donnell, who also directed and executive produced the sleeper hit Colin from Accounts, will direct and EP the eight-episode series. The supporting cast includes Rachel House (Thor: Ragnarok), Jessica De Gouw (The Couple Next Door), Miritana Hughes (Preacher), Ra Chapman (Wentworth), and Megan Wilding (Mystery Road: Origin). Patrick Brammall, co-creator and star of Colin from Accounts, will also appear in a guest role.

While Sunny Nights doesn’t have a release date yet, it’s already making waves, with a spot in Berlinale’s Series Market Selects. Cineflix Rights is handling distribution and will kick off international sales at Berlin, followed by the London Screenings. How this project stayed low-key for so long is anyone’s guess, but we’re betting Sunny Nights will be impossible to ignore once it premieres on Stan.

We’ll be watching closely as more details emerge—and if Sunny Nights lives up to the hype, we might even book a spray tan in solidarity.
