Last year’s duel strikes put the 2023 TV awards season on ice until early this year, so it feels just slightly too soon to be doing it all over again, but it’s happening: awards season is back, baby! And kicking it off is the nominations for the Television Critics Association Awards, which are decided by an organization of more than 230 television critics from the US and Canada.
FX and Netflix tied for top spot this year, both securing 16 nominations each, with stand-out series like Shōgun and Baby Reindeer catapulting them to the top. The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and Hacks continue to dominate the comedy categories, while X-Men ’97 and Fallout make appearances in a litany of categories including Outstanding New Program.
“This was a terrific television season in every genre, and our nominations reflect those riches,” TCA President Jacqueline Cutler says. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 40th Awards and even more delighted to do so in person.”
The landmark 40th annual TCA Award ceremony will take place July 12th in California.
