HBO Max Lands The Big Bang Theory in Reported Multi-Billion-Dollar Streaming Deal

The Big Bang Theory may have ended, but the sitcom will live on through what’s reported to be an incredibly expensive streaming deal with HBO Max.
As Paste predicted earlier this year, The Big Bang Theory will soon be available for streaming in its entirety. WarnerMedia’s forthcoming HBO Max streaming platform, set to launch in 2020, has secured domestic exclusive streaming rights to The Big Bang Theory for five years, as well as extending the show’s TBS syndication deal through 2028. That’s not exactly a year per each of its 12 seasons, but certainly enough time to get through without binge-watching (which star Mayim Bialik is fervently against).
What no one could have anticipated was its record-breaking deal. THR reports that the deal, which includes streaming and the syndication extension, is worth “billions of dollars.”
The show was created by Chuck Lore and Bill Prady, and premiered on CBS in September 2007. It holds the record of being the longest-running multi-camera comedy series in U.S. TV history—a mouthy but impressive honor. The series received 55 Emmy nominations, 10 wins, and seven Golden Globe nominations during its run, which ended this past May. The cast includes Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.
