Olivia Colman Will Replace Claire Foy In The Crown Seasons Three, Four

Netflix’s The Crown is meant to be a long-term epic, spanning the entirety of Queen Elizabeth II’s life. With each season depicting approximately a decade, the plan from creator Peter Morgan calls for revolving lead actresses (every two seasons) to play the Queen in different stages in life. Per EW, Olivia Colman is in line to replace current lead Claire Foy for seasons three and four.

Colman is a prolific British actress, starring in Broadchurch, and movies such as The Lobster and the forthcoming Murder on the Orient Express. Earlier this year, Colman won a Golden Globe for her supporting role in AMC’s The Night Manager. At one point, she appeared poised to succeed her Broadchurch co-star David Tennant as Doctor Who’s next protagonist.

Meanwhile, expect to see Foy, along with her co-stars Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby, Victoria Hamilton and Jeremy Northam, return for season two of The Crown—it will cover the years between 1957 and 1964, and will feature actors Matthew Goode and Michael C. Hall, who will portray John F. Kennedy.

Season two (out of a planned six) of The Crown will stream on Netflix starting Dec. 8.
