Netflix’s New Teaser for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Looks, Well, Epic

The hype train rolls on for Netflix’s prequel to Jim Henson’s puppet fantasy, The Dark Crystal. A newly released, and honestly quite intense, teaser trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance showcases a world much greener than the one we see in the 1982 film. But that peace is tenuous.

As explained to the Gelfling, Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel), by an authoritative disembodied voice, “The Darkness corrupts everything it touches.” We don’t need to tell you that’s not good. Eagle-eyed fans might notice characters from the first film making appearances—the hyperactive ball of fluff, Fizzgig, and the sage grump, Aughra. All in all, Age of Resistance will definitely flesh out Thra and its inhabitants.

The one-sheet captures a sort of “we’re questing” vibe, which seems a natural fit considering the series’ synopsis:

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.

Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

The series is scheduled for release Aug. 30.
