Check Out the First Photo of Alexis Bledel’s Emily in Season Two of The Handmaid’s Tale

Things aren’t looking so swell for Alexis Bledel in the forthcoming season of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale, based on Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel. The actress, who picked up her first Emmy win for Guest Actress in a Drama Series last season, will move from guest actress to series regular in this next season.

Bledel plays Emily, a college professor who was a mother married to another woman before the war. She has endured horrific punishment as Offred’s (Elisabeth Moss) Handmaid companion Ofglen. Cynical and hell-bent on revenge, she still treats the victims of Gilead with tenderness and compassion. The image from the new season shows Bledel’s character in the colonies, looking exhausted and dreaming of hope and change.

Season two will launch on Hulu on April 25, with two episodes, and continue thereafter with one episode a week for a total of 13 episodes. The new season finds a pregnant Offred and all our other characters in a fight against the dystopian horrors of Gilead. The series stars Golden Globe and Emmy winner Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Bledel, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, Amanda Brugel and Emmy winner Ann Dowd.
