Hulu Renews The Handmaid’s Tale for a Second Season
Photo by George Kraychyk/HuluThough the first season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale hasn’t even wrapped yet, the streaming platform has already renewed its runaway success for a second season.
The dystopian drama based on Margaret Atwood’s eponymous novel was renewed for a second season this morning, just one week after the series premiere, which was the most-watched premiere ever for Hulu (per Variety).
There’s no timetable for when the second season will be released (though 2018 is likely), or any details on what storylines and characters it will include, but there are a whole lot of rumors floating around. One prominent rumor mentioned by Entertainment Weekly is that Atwood is writing a sequel to her 1985 novel, which could mean a second season would draw material from the follow-up.
But, given that the show has already stepped outside the boundaries of Atwood’s iconic novel, there’s a chance that a second season will simply travel further down its own separate and distinct road.
