Amazon’s The Tick Gets New Teaser, Set For August Premiere

Amazon has announced that their forthcoming superhero comedy series The Tick will premiere on Friday, Aug. 25.

The series is created by Bill Edlund, the author of the original comic book series. Edlund also created The Tick animated series, which ran from 1994 to 1996, as well as the 2001 live-action television series, which flopped after one season. Amazon’s The Tick will be Edlund’s fourth time working with the series, and he certainly has enough Tick experience on his resume to land the job.

As for the plot, it has changed slightly through its different versions, but the Amazon series will focus on “an accountant with zero powers [who] comes to realize his city is owned by a super villain.” As the accountant, played by Griffin Newman (Vinyl), works to uncover the conspiracy, he teams up with “a strange blue superhero.” We can only assume this is the Tick, played by Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy).

It look likes The Tick is going to be part superhero parody, part Seinfeld-inspired sitcom. Or maybe it’ll veer more in the direction of the irreverent Deadpool. It’s really hard to tell from the promo video, in which we just hear the Tick utter a single word. Does he say “meat” or “neat”? Watch below to decide for yourself.
