Top Gear Host Chris Evans Resigns After One Season

TV News

After one season and dismal ratings, Chris Evans is stepping down from his host position on BBC’s Top Gear.

“Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough,” Evans tweeted on Monday.

His resignation follows media speculation that Evans and co-host Matt LeBlanc (of Friends fame) butted heads while working together.

The two replaced the former trinity of Top Gear hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. Those three, who left the show last year, will premiere their new motoring show, The Grand Tour, on Amazon this fall.

Meanwhile, the American counterpart to Top Gear was dropped by the History Channel last week.
