The first look at the forthcoming documentary Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story came in Monday afternoon, on the six-year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death at the hands of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. Martin, a 17-year-old teenager, was shot and killed by Zimmerman on Feb. 26, 2012, in the Florida community where they both lived. Zimmerman, who claimed he shot Martin on the grounds of self-defense, was acquitted of second-degree murder charges by a Florida court. This sparked a surge of protests and outrage across the country, becoming a catalyst of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

The tragic story of Trayvon Martin will now be told in a six-part unscripted documentary, Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, set to air on the Paramount Network in July of this year. Based on the book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, the documentary will talk about the life and legacy of Martin and the impact of his death, including the rise of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Paramount has teamed up with executive producer Shawn Carter (Jay Z) to create this milestone television event. Executive producers also include co-writers of the book Fulton and Tracy Martin, Chachi Senior, Michael Gasparro, Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason and Nick Sandow. Furst and Nason will serve as co-directors on the series.

Again, Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story is set to air this July. Watch the documentary’s first teaser trailer below.
