Mahershala Ali to Star in True Detective Season 3

After a sophomore slump that almost killed the series, the third season ofTrue Detective is already making an attempt to win us back.

During HBO’s Television Critic Academy presentation, president of programming Casey Bloys confirmed Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali has closed a deal to play lead in the next installment of the anthology series. Ali has quickly become a pretty in demand actor after his roles in House of Cards, Luke Cage and of course Moonlight, for which he won the Academy Award for best supporting actor. It is likely many will tune in just to see how he does in the once praised drama.

Aside from casting, True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has been working with writer-producer David Milch. Bloys said he had read five “terrific” finished scripts that he was very impressed and excited by.

“We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go,” said Bloys. Fingers Crossed.
