True Detective Season Three Premieres in January

True Detective season three has had a long, rocky road to our television sets, but HBO’s crime-drama anthology officially has a return date. The Mahershala Ali-starring new season will kick off Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO, with subsequent episodes (eight in total) airing in that same time slot.

The Nic Pizzolatto-created anthology’s new season centers on a macabre crime in the heart of the Northwest Arkansas Ozarks, resulting in a mystery that deepens over decades, playing out in three distinct time periods. Ali stars as state police detective Wayne Hays alongside Stephen Dorff as Hays’ partner Roland West, Carmen Ejogo as Arkansas schoolteacher Amelia Reardon, and Mamie Gummer and Scoot McNairy as grieving parents.
