Watch the First Official Trailer for True Detective Season Three
Photos by Warrick Page/HBOHBO has shared the first official trailer for True Detective season three, which moves the time-bending action from California to the Ozark Mountains.
The new season will follow Wayne Hays (Oscar winner Mahershala Ali), a Northwestern Arkansas state police detective who is trying to pick up the pieces of an unsolved case over three time periods. The show’s solid ensemble cast also includes Carmen Ejogo, Mamie Gummer and Scoot McNairy.
The new trailer fleshes out the unsolved case that was only hinted at in the mysterious teaser released back in August. All we, and Detective Hays, know is that in 1980, two kids were supposed to be home by 5:30, but never arrived, setting Hays on a journey that he says has consumed his entire life and career.
Creator Nic Pizzolatto will serve as showrunner and the sole credited writer on the entire eight-episode season, besides the fourth episode, which he co-wrote with Deadwood creator David Milch. Hold the Dark and Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier helmed the first two episodes, but was forced to depart the production due to scheduling conflicts, after which Pizzolatto, making his directing debut, split those duties with Daniel Sackheim for the rest of the season.
The third season of True Detective premieres on HBO Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at 9 p.m. ET.
